To mark her first birthday in 2018, 21 year-old Jessica Chorlton decided to write her name in a way that was both memorable and ironic: Alchemist Names. Alchemist Names is an experiment she and several others at University of Glasgow have been working on for their second birthday. Her idea is that, by using various creative names in their writings and interviews, they hope to highlight the unconventional uses people use for their favourite fictional character’s name.
I am so excited for this experiment as it’s going to be the ultimate goal and I am looking forward to writing about it in this blog.
I just wanted to let everyone know that I am actually going to try to be part of the experiment. My name is going to be used in my next few journal posts, which is a really cool story about me. I will also be trying to write my own little love letter/junk mail at the end of a few posts – and I am really interested to see if I can manage it.
The project started in response to the blog post by my friend Chris O’Boyle where he wrote a journal with all of his favourite fictional characters names along with their meanings. The idea was to create a list of all the funny names and, subsequently, share them with others via social media. You can read our blog about it here. To all of those who replied, I would like to wish you the very best of luck in the challenges you are tackling on your blogs.
