This is not some hypothetical scenario, and this won’t ever happen. Australia is set to be the first country in the world to completely ban the use of human names for their dog breeds in 2021.
As the population shrinks as they age we will need to create new ways of interacting with these creatures. There needs to be a greater sense of connection between our dog and the family pets of the world. We need to look at ways in which our domestic dogs engage with the natural world, so we can help them communicate with different species. All animals have their own languages and different ways of relating, we need to help them learn those.
With a population of more than 50 million people, Australia is well on its way to building an animal community in its image. One of the ways we can increase the sense of connection between dogs and people without necessarily having to ban a breed and/or its namesake.
“Dog Naming Legislation” is coming. With it, Australia is aiming to become a household name when it comes to domestic dogs. Australia may be a very small nation but we want you to know that we are trying to do all we can to keep our animal companions happy. In 2018, we started the “Australian Dog Breeds” campaign, seeking breeders to register the breed.

What if you were to register your pet’s breed instead? In 2018, we started the Australian Dog Breeds campaign that seeks to be in the first dog group on the Aussie Kennel Club’s (AKC) official website.
Let’s be clear here – we are not trying to bring back the traditional use of dog names. In fact, there are hundreds of people who would appreciate it if we stopped all dog names in today’s society. This is where we need to step up and we need to do more to help domestic dogs and people get along.
We want to know why and how other people agree to such a change and what are our reasons not to want to be part of it. The good news is that it is very easy to change. Old blog: The problem is that there are a lot of people out there advocating for the banning of dog breeds, but those in favor are few and far between.
If you are wondering why you should care or what should you be doing if you want to ban this breed then the answer is still the same. In your opinion, there are things that you as a consumer should be doing. The way we were raised and the ideas that we were fed were meant to have a strong connection.
