The good news is that you can have a healthy response to life’s situations and problems. This is the positive side of things and something to be embraced. The bad news is that you are in the middle of it all and can’t really control your actions.
We’ve all had bad experiences at one time or another, and we all deal with the effects of it in one way or another. But when you are in the middle of it all, you can’t really control your responses.
This happens to me over and over again. I can count on one hand the number of times I have been able to control my actions in this particular situation. If it was up to me, I would be sitting at home right now sitting with a glass of wine, watching football, and telling myself that it would all be over in 10 minutes. But I don’t know how I would do it. I know what I want to do, but I can’t do it.
If you’ve been on a rollercoaster of emotions this past month, chances are you were probably responding to something that would normally get you in trouble with your supervisor. But if you’ve been able to control your response enough to have your boss respect you for it, then you’re a freakin’ hero.
In fact, youre probably not even in the top 5% of those who have been able to stay on the rollercoaster of emotions. Thats because that’s the thing that keeps you from getting caught. Youre not going to admit that youre upset to your boss, but instead you need to act like its because youre upset.
As a general rule, the more you can control your response, the more you can control the person you’re responding to. If you’re not controlling your reactions, then why are you doing what you already do? It’s just a simple matter to stop.
Well, its a great rule. If you can just stop the negative things from happening you can actually get things done faster. However, I think it goes a bit deeper than that. Your responses are a reflection of your past, your life, and a good chunk of your future. Your past is what youre trying to avoid. Your life is what youre trying to change, and your future is what changes your life.
So if youre not actively trying to change the things that got you into a problem, you are actually doing the opposite. You are actively avoiding things that could cause you to have a problem, but you are doing it all out of fear.
People who are afraid of things are actually more likely to feel that way about them. In other words, you may think you have the power to make a problem go away, but you actually have the power to make it worse. The best way to feel in control of your life is to feel you are making your life better.
