Sending an email from your friend is a very common technique used to get your friends to send you e-mail. In fact, I have found that this technique is used a little too often. Its a great way of shutting down your friends if they want to, but it is also an easy way to make a little money. I would think that any company that has a marketing department would want to know how to send emails that theyve already been given.
I don’t know about you, but I get a little frustrated when I get an e-mail that says “you must click this link to see this email. You can’t see it because we gave it to you to look at, but you can’t click it because we gave it to you to click on.” It’s like you have to force them to give you an invitation to a party.
What if I had been the only person sending you an email about a business youve been wanting to build, but I didnt do it? I wouldnt have been able to make you click on the link that youve been given to the email. The point is because most of the time I can’t get my mail going.
If you’ve got an email with a link in it, you can easily click it. If you can’t, you can’t. It’s a shame because it means the other party could see you’re email address. It’s like being the only person on the planet who knows you’re not invited for a party.
People who send you outbound email probably do so as a form of social proof. They are attempting to show that they are more important than you, and that they think you should consider them for business, because they wouldnt have sent it without a reason to do so. However, if they can send you a link to an email they have on their server, it puts you in a position of having no control over it.
I think this is the reason that this is considered so bad, and why so many people avoid this kind of social interaction. Sure, its fun to send an email out in hopes that someone will click on it, but I think the message is lost in the noise. So instead, people email other people, because they feel like they can do it better than anyone else.
