I spent a few days at the beginning of the year meeting with a handful of salespeople and sales managers to talk about how we could get more sales and grow the business. As it turns out, sales is the number one reason for people to work for us (we’re the only place in the area with an in-house sales department). I also talked to several people from my network about how they were getting into sales themselves and what they were doing to become better.
I spent a few days in a sales meeting where I had the opportunity to speak with a senior sales manager. He was very supportive and helpful, but I learned so much about his company and sales culture. I think that’s the best part about sales. You can get lots of valuable information from someone who’s in sales, but as someone who worked in sales for a long time, I learned so much more than I ever would have if I weren’t in sales.

Every sales job is different, and I have a lot of respect for an actual sales person because of that. I think that having a good sales person can have a huge impact on the bottom line, and it’s something that I think every sales job should strive for.
