Buddhist yoga encompasses a variety of methods which aim to develop the 37 aids to awakening. Its ultimate goal is bodhi or nirvana , traditionally seen as the permanent end of suffering and rebirth. Buddhist texts use a number of terms for spiritual praxis in addition to yoga, such as bhāvanā (“development”) and jhāna/dhyāna. Jain spirituality is based on a strict code of nonviolence, or ahimsa , almsgiving (dāna), faith in the three jewels, austerities such as fasting, and yoga. Jain yoga aims at the liberation and purification of the self from the forces of karma, which binds the self to the cycle of reincarnation. Like yoga and Sankhya, Jainism believes in a number of individual selves bound by their individual karma.
Illustration of this principle is found in Hindu texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and Yogasutras, in a number of Buddhist Mahāyāna works, as well as Jain texts. Classical Yoga is the time of Patanjalis Yoga Sutras, which systemises Yoga through its eight limbs. The Yoga Yajnavalkya also emerges from this period, which is set as a dialogue between Yajnavalkya and his consort Gargi.

Is purely a devotional collection of melodies used to elevate one’s consciousness. The hymns in the Sama-Veda are combined with musical notes, and their content was heavily drawn from the Rig-Veda, providing no distinctive lessons of their own. This use of music combined with mantras formed the foundation for the Bhakti yoga practice of kirtan, devotional chanting. Is the oldest, dating back to 1500 B.C.E., and is the most revered and important of the four. The Rig-Veda’s collection of inspired hymns and mantras were used to invoke courage, happiness, health, peace, prosperity, success, and wisdom. In the Rig-Veda we learn the now famous Gayatri mantra, which is still used today for its potent spiritual qualities.
The Vedas are considered the most sacred and treasured texts of India. The Vedas are a collection of hymns that were received by the ancient rishis as shruti, divine revelation. As hymns and mantras, these ezpro bath express works were actively recited out loud to both praise and invoke the powers of the spiritual realms, and had been verbally passed on for many generations before written down on delicate palm leaves.
In this regard the Vedic language has a depth and dimension that modern languages, products of the outer mind and ego, cannot approach. Vedic mantras reflect the pattern of cosmic law and the blue print of cosmic intelligence, through which all that exists can be comprehended in ones inmost consciousness. Vedic mantras contain the prototypes of all knowledge and all powers of creation. Yet to understand and use them correctly requires a special insight. Vedic mantras cannot be grasped by the ordinary intellect, which is why academic renderings of the Vedas are almost useless and breed many distortions.
